last week i went to work, but not until after i found a nice french course in geneva. i am in a nice beginners class with 3 other students and it's working out pretty good. i can say a few things, and understand a little more. it'll take a while but i'll get there. luckily i'm working 4 days a week so i have to listen and communicate all in french. it's really good though. i found out that since i finished one feasibility study with francesco last week, i am beginning a new project with the girl i sit next to, delphine. she's really nice and a member of the executive board in the office. the project is a part renovation of a music school in downtown geneva. we're going to a meeting tomorrow at a graphic design firm to discuss collaboration on imagery to present at a meeting on october 21. the firm is Aterlier Roger Pfund and apparently they have designed the swiss franc and also the french euro?? should be a cool meeting.
what else... iacopo and i have been busy with cooking lately, testing out some new recipes - like stromboli (inspired by guy fieri from "diners, drive-ins, and dives"), my favorite dessert tiramisu, and the usual pizza, as well as some apple crisp. we've also had dinner with some friends - some really good cappellacci (pumpkin filled tortelloni) with homemade sauce straight from ferrara, italy. it's sooooo good... mmmm.... regarding me and my baking skills, i don't exactly have the best track record. so going into the tiramisu i was all excited but i made SURE that iacopo would help me, so i wouldn't screw up. so we finished, put it in the fridge, and no joking - hours later - i come out of the bathroom yelling "the mascarpone!!!!!" we forgot the mascarpone. the key ingredient. i'm not kidding. so at 11pm on a friday iacopo and i were downstairs whipping up another batch, this time the right way, and with all of the ingredients ahhahaha... it was pretty good. still needs work though... ;)
today we went on an absolutely AMAZING trip. just gorgeous. but i have to warn my mom, my sister, the rest of my family, and basically all of my friends, because it was like WINE HEAVEN. so if you are too jealous of how beautiful and amazing this place sounds, stop reading now. seriously. for those of you who are curious, continue on.
we went to a region called lavaux - 830 hectacres of vineyards terraced with stone walls by monks during the 11th centxury. it is a 30km stretch of steep, beautiful, winding, ordered, vineyards, with roads that wrap in between somehow and connect a series of cities along the way. i'm not kidding when i say it was one of the most gorgeous things i have ever seen!! if you take tuscany, pile it on top of the amalfi coast, smash it up against lake como, and then put the alps right in the background - well there you go. i'll let the photos do the talking.
